How Anastrozole works is a prescription medication. It is available as oral tablets.

How it works

Anastrozole belongs to a class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors. These block the production of estrogen, a key stimulator of breast cancer. Warnings for certain groups

For pregnant women: Anastrozole is not explicitly contraindicated during pregnancy, but there are restrictions regarding its use. The package leaflet recommends that people of childbearing potential use effective contraception during treatment with anastrozole and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose. You must have a negative pregnancy test before starting anastrozole.
